Johnny Kelley (2:20:05) wins the Boston Marathon.

Called Johnny Kelley “The Younger,” it is the only Boston Marathon victory for Kelley and the first for an American in the race since John A. Kelley (“The Elder”) won in 1945. He goes on to finish second in the race five times.
